Re: North Korea vs. Trump

I am with you on this one, Wayne. You know what they say about the pot calling the kettle black? In our case, our pot is darker than the kettle.

Re: Mom wants firearms

DaScribbler, I did look into the shooting centre and I am still considering the option. Scrounger, I will check out the t-ball bats to see if they will fit my hands better. Thanks for the suggestion. I did check Calgary bylaw about shooting in our backyard but it was 7+ years ago. Wayne, I definitel...

Re: Mom wants firearms

... I also like the idea of bear spray. May not work very well if there's more than one intruder but that's better than nothing. Actually inside it works excellent for multiple attackers. Like Peppercorn mentioned, it may effect you as well. The key is extended arm reach, spray, close your eyes and...

Re: Mom wants firearms

Thank you everyone for your input. I have taken self defense classes but the techniques I've learned were more for escaping under less violent situations. If the intruders are armed then I am screwed. But I do like the idea of owning a crossbow (thanks Peppercorn). I used to teach our son how to sho...

Mom wants firearms

My husband and I live in a decent neighborhood in Calgary with our 15 year old boy. I am a prepper but they take no interest in emergency preparedness. I always want to be trained to handle firearms but my husband and son are strongly against the idea. They don't even want me to go for training let ...

Re: HELP Birds!!!

We built a cage this spring to keep the berries in. Not sure how effective until we have some yummy berries.

I was going to post a pic but just found out Photobucket now charges $399 a year for third party hosting. How can I post a picture here without using a third party hosting site?

Re: Gardens in 2017

It's too cold here in Calgary to leave my plants out even just overnight. I grow them indoor under grow lights. Just last week, I got 50+ little tomatoes as my last harvest of my first winter crops. Cloned two new tomato plants a month ago to replace the first two that I just removed. These two shou...

Re: What fruit are you growing

Our backyard is very small. We have a small apple tree that yields small apples (not crap but small) and berries (strawberry, raspberry, gooseberry). I have seen someone in our neighborhood growing melons and blueberry but I never have any luck with those. Technically tomato is a fruit, I have a cou...

How practical is hydroponics from a prepper's perspective?

We live in Calgary with extremely short growing season and often in the middle of summer we get a snowstorm or frosty night then all our plants die. I have tried indoor hydroponics but didn't have very good success. Have any of you done hydroponics year round with good result? Do you think it's prac...
