Re: My kingdom :)

That's awesome man, I've inspired a couple of my mates into growing some vegges as well this season, I think both of them are hooked now. A wise man once said that if everybody had a vegetable patch nobody would need anti-depressants, that's pretty much how I feel about mine. I'm currently harvestin...

Canned Chicken

Hi preppers, A month or so ago I bought a pressure canner and have canned a few pints of chicken breast, I did the 'raw pack' method and just added half a teaspoon of salt in with the chicken. It worked well and I have recently been using the canned chicken in my daily cooking, living the 'eat what ...

Re: May be Relocating to New Zealand

Hi RachelM, 'Prepping' is not very common in New Zealand at all, like most socialist democracies the vast majority of people have come to blindly rely on the government, in fact, a large percentage of our population pretty much live on money and in houses provided by the government. But . . . you ar...

Re: Doomsday Preppers (Tv series)

I should point out that NZ is one of the easiest places on earth for a 'fit and proper' person with no criminal record to get a firearms licence and buy something like a AR15, we aren't allowed to own firearms for self defense of-course, but there is plenty of good hunting country around your place ...

Nice find, will have a read! I love how prepping is once again becoming mainstream, just like it was 200 years ago!

Re: My kingdom :)

Yes, the old soft drink bottle storage, the bottles are made of PET which is the same stuff the mylar food storage bags are made from (except for not being coated with mylar obviously ;) ) Works great for storing your grains and sugar for many years. I pop a mini oxygen absorber in the top which cau...

My kingdom :)

It's a great day in Auckland, and it sounds like Grace is getting a bit lonely, so I figured I would upload a few pics of my middle-of-the-city country living :D The 'Backyard' as seen from the deck, vegetable garden in the distance, new fence going up next to it. Chicken coop on the left. http://ww...

Re: Black "Flexi Tubs" as Solar Water Heaters

Good plan there Grace, I have a few of the regular camping showers that I leave out on the deck on washing day, that way I get free HOT water for the clothes washing. I have lately been contemplating a combination of evacuated-tube solar water heating on the roof with on-demand gas that is bottle fe...
