Re: Alternative Cooking Source?

Since my last post on this I have added a 2nd Ecozoom rocket stove , and the hobo stove accessory for the Kelly Kettle Trekker. Is anyone using charcoal or wood chunks in their ecozoom or firebox ? I am not sure of the best types to use ? I would think the wooden natural lump / natural wood charcoal...

Re: What have you added to your preps this week?

Finally added the hobo stove accessory to my Kelly Kettle Trekker (KK) which was not part of the kit when I bought it . I really like the KK for fast boiling of water. I might also buy a larger version for the house so I don't have to use the ecozoom rocket stove for water boiling larger amounts of ...

Re: Honey what Type + where to buy online Canada for LTS

Just a thought about containers.

Tall narrow containers turn out to be a pain when the honey becomes solid.
A wider mouth container would work better for easy of getting honey out when solid.

Re: Alternative Cooking Source?

I think having a variety of stoves is a good idea. Obviously some are suited for home use. Also having a variety of stoves with different fuel capabilities is also key. My stoves: -EcoZoom rocket stove -Coleman 2 burner old fashioned Naptha Fuel -Coleman peak 1 single burner portable Multi Fuel but ...

Re: Water on Rural Property - Well or Cistern?

I would never consider a property with only a cistern for water. A well is a requirement . What would a person do in a SHTF , there would be no water refills and your neighbours would be wanting to rob your water stash. You would always be thinking of water water water. You would need to relocate in...

Re: Update on Fort McMurray

This is really a bad situation . News state the entire city of 60,000 have been ordered evacuated . This is quite massive. Homes in Beacon Hill, and the Centennial Trailer Park have been destroyed. There are stranded motorists. This reminds us that while many preppers are planning to bug in , we sti...

Re: Honey

Previously the honey I bought in the fall did not crystallize before I used it up during last winter The batch I am working on now , 4 big GLASS bottles, I bought this past fall, and it has all crystallized. Not sure I want to buy these big bottles again , but the price is better I found you can get...

Re: Moral Obligations To Non-Preppers What would you do?

I use the method of prepping ahead , where I use my stash of supplies as my current stock also, so that everything gets rotated . So for example, every time I use 1 bag of rice , when I shop next I buy 2 or 3 bags. So my supplies build up gradually but I am still rotating the stock. The dating on my...

Re: Looking for Canadian sites for freezedried products

While not Freeze Dried, I think we will be seeing a big increase in preppers doing more dehydrating at home in Canada
this coming summer with the increase in food prices . I will be putting mine to more use.

Also might be time to consider a canner, which I don't have.
