Re: Best Handheld Ham Radio?

Just finished programming my uv-5r, copyng all Cdn Federal and Reference.com (Canada) freq tables for local Cities. Also have CB and Marine handhelds..all with 12 volt optional plugs. Remember - If you are going to listen to Marine freqs you require a Lic to transmit. But I'd ignore that in a real S...

Re: bought a coleman 100 watt panel

I use a panel. The best way to check how it's performing is to buy a cheap multimeter w/up to 10amp throughput measure capability. The following table is worth noting as it will tell you the 12 volt battery charge condition and I use mine for both batt's I have. I.e.: 12 VOLT CHARGE CONDITION TABLE ...

Re: Wilderness Survival Situations are real, and Fast

If anyone hasn't spent time in the bush (days) or Winter Camped they should. After reading all possible about equipment, why the specific equipment, fire and shelter's building, water filtering, bugs, bears, food storage..where to clean fish..i.e. at least 100 yards from a camp... Important stuff. I...

Re: Storage of Small Coleman Propane Tanks

Talk with Coleman. I have six of them and keep them in a box, also three Butane and two new 20lb Propane tanks. Keep'm dry and away from heat sources. The canisters PPN & Btn..keep the seal-caps on..if there's a leak the caps will partly pop-up.

Re: Faraday cages

J1234, I would NOT use anything metal such as old tool boxes, if painted. All and I mean all joints..the lid, etc MUST be metal on metal. By an Aluminum Garbage can and make the mods anywhere a gap of more that 1/32 "is noticed especially between the lid and upper can body. That's what I did. F...

Re: VHF Radio

My understanding is listening and being in the possession of a Marine Radio is allowed. Trouble happens when one presses the transmit button with verbage. Easily triangulated. Just wrote the department of Fisheries ans Dept of Transport..all Marine Radios should be given a single non-licensed channe...

Re: Walkie Talkies and Batteries

Solar panel-yes..but: Voltage level & Min-Amp output is a serious consideration for 1.2VDC, 12ah batterys, where most Solars are prducing 12VDC 2-120 AMP. There is a 12 battery DC splitter on the market I purchased one..still the output on all frequently used powersources is 2-3 AMPS --Far to mu...

This concept seems quite interesting. Would like to see some substantial positive-test reviews..following that, being in the high star rating, I will certainly research it more and possibly download. Thanks!
