Re: Ontario

If it happened then he's up to his earlobes in labour and paperwork.... too busy to be on here recruiting.... and I hope that's the case.

It'd be awesome to see someone pull off a project of that magnitude.

Re: Beekeeping - get dirty intro

This is the first year. They hope to make it an annual event, but that depends on public support - bodies through the gates - they get this year.

Re: Beekeeping - get dirty intro

Anyone seriously interested in beekeeping should make every effort to attend the Queen Bee Party being hosted this Saturday Aug 20 at the Canadian Agriculture Museum. There's going to be 50ish vendors so you will see EVERY SINGLE product and byproduct possible from keeping bees. You'll also meet all...

Re: Beekeeping - get dirty intro

It doesn't have to be a weekend for me. I just assumed it'd work best for most.

Re: Beekeeping - get dirty intro

Mid Oct may be too late for this year.

I have no idea if it's accurate, but all the weather talk I hear is for a rough winter that starts early.

If frost, cold winds and or snow hits it is not safe to be in the hives. Has to be steady & calm 10+ degrees to work the bees.

Re: Beekeeping - get dirty intro

As long as folks can bring a mosquito veil or don't panic when a bee flies near them... there's no real limit. Although I would imagine the landowners wouldn't want more than 20 ppl. I don't mind if folks here spread the word with other groups. Just as long as everyone is respectful of others & ...

Beekeeping - get dirty intro

I'm willing to host an intro day in my Arnprior bee yard in late Sept or early Oct. IF we get enough interested bodies. Essentially everyone would have a chance to crack into a hive, learn the anatomy of a hive, see the bees as they're preparing for winter, observe some winterizing prep, learn about...

Re: EASTERN ONTARIO MEET - AUGUST 13TH, 2016 – LAROSE FOREST

Enjoyed myself and giving the bee talk.

If enough folks are interested I will organize a yard day at my Arnprior bees for late Sept or early Oct. Don't sound off here, I'll create a new thread.

Never been to Larose Forest before and I'm wondering if there are numerous entrances? Or just one? Don't want to get lost or delayed... being the first presenter and all. lol

Re: WHAT ANIMALS ARE BEST TO HAVE

I'd add bees to the mix.

Their products - honey, wax, propolis, bee pollen, pollination - are useful for sooooooooooooo many things preppers are keen on.

From April - Sept you can expect to spend an average of 30 mins per hive, per week to care for them. That's pretty easy to do.
