Well, it did also mention this this same thing has happened 20 times in the last 5 years and that they did not cross into Canadian air space, just close. I doubt though that it is a coincident as most things are intentional. It is likely a reminder that we too are within their reach as we too are treading close to their boundaries when dealing with Ukraine.

This activity is more common than you think and the number of 20 in 5 years is extremely lower than the actual. These types of "probes" are conducted by all sides and are just part of the international jousting. They are intentional and they are intended to test reactions. Once they intercept aircraft are close, they turn away. Nothing to worry about.

If Putin grows tired of the Ukraine he may shift his focus to the Arctic, a bit of a disputed region.
We would see a lot more of this probing in that case, leaving Canada right in the middle of it all.

Too close to winter for fretting. Equipment breaks far more in the cold and that factor alone would improve the odds greatly for defenders. Next, if your going to strike, why do so in a region that would be so hard to resupply? The longer the supply lines the greater the chance of failure. Hits and runs would be a far better tactic to make one's opponent have to split up and defend in turn.

I'm betting that Putin is stalling as long as he can and awaiting an imminent economic collapse. in this way, he gains more favor too as he is then seen as a peacemaker instead. Seems time is on his side, not ours.
