Heated Raised beds

Postby peppercorn » Sat Apr 23, 2016 5:02 pm

Building raised beds that can be heated, doing different types, but thought this one might be of interest, as old bath tubs are easy to get. This one will be propane heated in spring /fall. Two tubs set on a old fuel tank. Tubs bolted together,

Lots of room between the tubs to slip in a propane burner. The perimeter of the tubs gets insulated with r12 fiberglass to hold in heat

Holes drilled for drainage, scrap pipe laid in the bottom and covered with perforated sheet metal...should allow for good drainage, then dirt added.

The propane tank goes in a door (yet to be cut) on the right hand side, still needs to be painted, but has been planted in about two weeks ago. So its a heated "cold" frame...a warm frame

Interesting build! Maybe keep us updated on whether you found the yield/result was different than more traditional cold frames.

Interesting, when I think of my heated beds, I use compost to create the heating effect, a combo of a manure hot box and a cold frame, I agree.. will be interested to see how it goes.. keep us posted.
