What Did You Prep This Week

Postby Denob » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:06 pm

From beans to rice...
Batteries to kerosene...
Bandaids to bubble gum...

A good prepper tries to put something up each week.
Let us know what everyone else is prepping so we can all remind each other not to forget that certain something.

Bought a small greenhouse from Home Depot. Have to wait until the weather improves to set it up. Hope it lasts longer than the PVC pipe hoop house I tried. It blew apart almost every storm in a couple of years it was toast. Have started a few trays of peppers but waiting a bit for everything else.

Put up more of that valuable stuff....food. Bought what I needed that was on sale and then got a couple more for the preps.
Aside from that, a bit of a top up on the car kit...
Found a folding solid fuel stove with 12 tablets at Dollarama for $2.00.
Don't underestimate your local dollar stores...they keep changing the inventory.
Bought some rechargeable batteries there a while back....2 pack AA for $2.00.
They hold a charge and seem to work well.
Even if they only charge up 10 times...still a deal over any alkaline !
Also, got some tiny ziplok bags...2" x 3"...80 pack for $1.00.
Great for packing those little things.
I use these to pack instant coffee, soup mix, etc for the BOB. Great for single serving stuff.

Bought a little extra dry soup mix with the regular grocery run. We do this every week to build up the preps.
Also continued to cut down trees as land clearing for the garden this spring.

AD, you did know that brown rice has a shorter shelf life than white, right? Because it contains oil it goes rancid after about 6 months. I know it goes against the grain (pardon the pun), but for long term storage go white.
