it's hard to beat the Sawyer Mini Water Filtration System. It has a high-performance filter, is quite small (weighs two ounces) and will filter down to 0.1 Micron. It can adapt to almost any hydration pack and has a filter capacity of 100,000 gallons. It's inexpensive (around $30 or you can pick-up a pack of two for $45) and removes 99.99999% of all bacteria and protozoa. It allows safe and immediate consumption from almost any fresh water source. If you need high volumes of water beyond this, boil and filter or distill.

This system should be in everyone's bugout kit. The only problem that Water Filters can't adequately address is chemicals. That's another story...

Katdyne water filters are nice to have in the home, car and go bag. Stuck on 401, go to a ditch,or a little into the woods etc
Keeping water in you vehicle means leaving enough space for it to expand during freeze. I also change my car water out at least three times a year. Helps with taste and I know it’s fresh
