Great lakes Algae Bloom

Apparently boiling said water does not eliminate the health risk, besides stocking up on bottled water, what suggestions do you have to purify affected water?

There are public springs all over Ontario where you can just drive up and fill your containers. You should probably make a point of visiting all of them in your area for future reference.
If your water comes from one of the Great Lakes you should start drinking spring water now and until at least October or November. If there's a spring close to you I would make regular visits and stop drinking lake water at all. Fresh spring water is way better than drinking spring or tapwater that has been sitting in a plastic bottle for God knows how long - and paying for it to boot.

Perfesser, thanks for the spring link. I have been checking water sources around here and all are standing water or stagnant creeks. I found 2 springs listed here, so I will check them out tomorrow :)

Yes, thank you for the link! My mother in law was just letting me about a spring in Wakefield Qc that she goes to whenever they are out that way. Incase anyone is out that way. I didn't see it on the link. I'll try to find out where it is exactly if anyone wants to know.
