Surrey And Langley Selling Rain Barrels

Postby Stache » Tue Apr 12, 2016 7:03 pm

Just a heads up to all my prepper friends in the Langley & Surrey areas.

I've always wanted to add these to our water plan, seems like a good deal.

Cheers

"A small investment in rain barrels could help save you a lot of money in a short amount of time.

Coming off a relatively hot summer, one that saw stage 3 water restrictions across the lower mainland, the City of Surrey and Langley are taking a proactive approach to help residents prepare for another warm season.

Together, they’re hosting an online sale to purchase FreeGarden rain barrels for $55 (tax included) before April 24 on the Enviro World website . Those who place an order will be able to pick-up their barrel on Sunday, May 8 at Willowbrook Shopping Centre (19705 Fraser Highway) between 9:00am and 3:00pm.

There will also be additional barrels on site for those who don’t order in advance but supply will be limited. The barrels retail for $89.99.

At first sight, the rain barrel seems just like any other barrel but the idea behind is actually genius.

Essentially, homeowners can use it to collect and store rainwater. The water harvested is fresh and can be used for a wide variety of purposes including watering the lawn / plants, washing vehicles, and even topping off pools. With stage 3 water restrictions last year, all of those options were not permitted and ultimately a headache for residents with many getting fined.

By harvesting water, residents can lower their water bills, use water on their own schedules, and also help protect the environment.

Quick specs on the FreeGarden Rain Barrel:

Large 55 gallon (208 litre) capacity
Accommodates existing downspouts
Includes overflow spout and 4′ hose to easily link two or more barrels for multi-barrel installations or to redirect overflow away from fountains
Elevated spigot accommodates watering cans
Insect resistant stainless steel filter
In addition, Metro Vancouver has announced that the lower mainland will likely shift into water restrictions earlier this year."
