Re: Milk Powder

I've cut out a lot of red meat from our meals except for ground beef, stew meat every 5 or 6 weeks and the occasional roast. The prices are so high compared to pork and chicken. A decent cut of steak isn't going to be on our plates any time soon! The sales flyers are full of pre-made frozen meals, c...

Re: Food Dehydrators

Costco has the Excalibur dehydrators on their website and there's a sale price on most of them until July 30th. www.costco.ca I've got the 9 tray one and it holds a lot of food and dries the food evenly without having to move any of the food around.

Re: Electricity-Free Laundry

I recently bought a breathing mobile washer http://breathingwasher.com/ for my son's mechanics clothes. I use a 5 gallon bucket and pre-wash the oil & grease out before putting them through the washing machine. It agitates the clothes very well, I don't find it takes much effort, definitely happ...

Re: Canning Salsa - cilantro question

Crisis averted. Finally found a vegetable stand that had cilantro. Paid a premium for it though and a 40 minute round trip drive. I think the vegetable garden plan has moved up on the list of things to do for next year.

Canning Salsa - cilantro question

I picked up 160 lbs of roma tomatoes today at a really good price. Did not realize there is a cilantro shortage because of contamination of the fields in Mexico. Does anyone know if I can use dried cilantro in place of fresh. I am using the bernardin "fresh vegetable salsa" recipe. I went ...

Re: Ask a leader food storage questions here

Hi Denob Try Home Hardware for Presto parts in Canada, I've bought a new sealing ring from them and I know they have the gauges online but maybe in the stores as well. I took the lid in when I went to buy to make sure I got the right seal & air vent plug. I think I paid about $13-14 for it but t...

Re: What if ? are you prepared ?

I wouldn't worry about the dog pooping in the house we'd be eating the dog if it got bad enough. Our dog is 9 years old and slowing down and realistically not an attack/guard dog unless someone wants to be licked to death. However she's a nice 85 lbs of protein. Don't get me wrong we love our dog bu...
