Same, intermittent power outages 3 or 4 times this winter, couple hours. Have generator.:) Gas, oil. Well insulated building.

Solar pv can be made DIY, search youtube, has vids with easy instructions. Copper sheets used. Wire. Used but serviceable batteries cheap..all 12 volt appliances..converter..easier and less complicated than boilers and safer..leave your trees wall hung..don't go there :)..passive solar ...
