Re: Prepping without a tribe is lonely.
I feel the same way sometimes, although every day - with climate change, conflict and natural disaster - we seem to inch closer to a world where a prepper mentality makes more sense to the average person (either that or more calls for the government to "do something" (whatever that ...

Re: Television Shows, Movies, and Fictional Books as Prepper Resources
I read the A. American books (Going Home, Surviving Home, etc). The William Forstchen books (One Second After, One Year After and The Final Day) are well-written. If you like that genre, try G Michaeel Hopf. I enjoy many of the post-apocalyptic shows on now, Walking Dead, The Colony, etc - if only t...

Re: Whats to fear...?
Clarence, not sure from where you are "observing" - but in response to #4, as someone who just returned from my 2nd stint this week sandbagging - I sure looked to me like the City has out there (in the flood zones) a sh*t-ton of heavy equipment, dump trucks, backhoes, etc pulled into servi...

Re: New Executive Order on EMP
I would guess that it does not include cyber attacks, except maybe as combined with an EMP (for greater effect). The US is actually probably further ahead on protecting against cyber threats (via NSA and US Cyber Command) compared to threats from EMP, esp if you're taking civilian critical infrastru...

New Executive Order on EMP
What do you guys think of Trump's new Executive Order on EMP? https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-coordinating-national-resilience-electromagnetic-pulses/ Seems long overdue. To be honest, I am a little mystified that he has created an EO on something so obvious and logic...

Re: question about Power in Ontario
For comparison, my bill, for a 1200-sq ft townhouse in the burbs of Ottawa, costs monthly anywhere from a low of $60 (October) to a high of $205 (this month - 1634 kWh consumption). I live alone & am pretty frugal with electricity, doing most stuff off-peak (when it is cheaper), but I do cook an...

Re: Life Disruptions
The one time I went to Cuba, in 1999, it was hit by a hurricane (found out later it was Dennis, a Cat 2) This meant power outages and torrential rain & winds. Ironically, since the Cubans at that point were so used to living on less, in unpredictable weather and with no supplies (fuel, building ...
