Re: Protecting family from home invaders

Speaking of dogs for security, I knew a man who had a small security service who used dogs. He would drop them off at various locations and pick them up in the morning. He got a contract for one of the indoor malls in the north end of Toronto. I was working a midnight shift and was dispatched to a B...

Re: Power Outage and Electronic Entry to Buildings

[quote="I agree there are both types of locks, but I suspect where they are used will determine the type, with again liability being the determinate factor, such as for example the Apartment building (public access area) , there I suspect only failed open types would be considered, where as th...

Re: Power Outage and Electronic Entry to Buildings

It really depends on the system. For example, a Fail-safe door/Lock and Magnetic lock will open automatically in case of power loss. Yet a Fail-secure door/lock will lock automatically in case of power loss. There are other designs as well that lock or unlock in-case of power failure. Many that lock...

Re: Protecting family from home invaders

I can't comment on the response time of the PD. When I was a police officer doing routine patrol and responding to alarms sometimes the department wasn't notified by the alarm company for some time. Some such companies are centralized in a different city and often have to figure-out what department ...

Re: Provincial Moderators Wanted!!!

I'm new to the forum. My experience in Prepping is limited, which is why I registered. I do have a background in Survival and Tactical Training. I've Instructed for Canadian Outward Bound and Survival Systems Ltd. (as Chief Instructor of Military Training). Previously, I was a police officer with th...

Re: Great Water Solution for Well

What did you happen to find in the way of distillation units for sea water? I looked at various 'Survival Stills' that cost from $300-$400. These are portable units and require quite a bit of time to yield sufficient quantities of drinking water. Larger units with far greater capabilities are avail...

Great Water Solution for Well

I live on two acres of land. Water is supplied by a submersible pump in a 100 foot deep drilled well on my property. When the power goes out, I need a solution. I looked at many different possibilities that included water storage, rain water collection, an on-site hand pump at the well head and even...

Re: Moral Obligations To Non-Preppers What would you do?

I've thought quite a bit about this question. In the past, I've held several preconceived ideas on how I would act if I was faced with a "particular situation." I've attempted to think rationally and be realistic as to the actions I would take. In the past however, when I've actually been ...

Re: New Member Introductions

Hi I'm Wayne, By way of introduction, I'm 63 years of age, married, and have two Grandsons living with my wife and I (ages 7 and 11). I suppose having young ones to look after has been the cause of my interest in prepping. My background includes being a military survival instructor and a police tact...
